How do I resign a game or match?

Modified on Tue, 29 Sep at 5:34 AM

You can resign during a game if you think the position is lost. Resigning takes effect straight away. Your opponent doesn't need to accept it.

How to resign

  1. During the game, tap Resign.
  2. Choose what you want to give up:
    • The current game, as a single game. This option only appears once you've borne off at least one checker. The exception is a 1-point match, or a Single Game where the cube hasn't been turned, where you can always resign a single game.
    • A gammon. This is only available when you could actually lose a gammon from the position.
    • A backgammon. This is only available when you could actually lose a backgammon from the position.
    • The whole match. You lose the match immediately.
  3. Confirm your choice.

If it isn't your turn when you resign, the resignation is saved and takes effect as soon as your turn comes round.

What resigning means

  • Your opponent scores the points you gave up. This is multiplied by the cube value, but never more than they need to win the match.
  • Resigning the whole match counts as a loss. In rated Match Play your rating changes just as it would for any other loss.
  • Running out of time counts the same as resigning the whole match.

Still stuck? If a resignation didn't go through or scored the wrong number of points, contact support. Include your username, your opponent's name, the approximate time and a screenshot.
